For a rush of adrenalin head to Almancil Karting and take the wheel of a 390 cc racing kart as you battle for pole position on the F1 replica track.

Almancil Karting is a feast of fun for the whole family with motored go-karts, big wheel off road buggies, radio control cars, trampolines, mini F1, mini boats and rodeo.

The substantial racetrack was inaugurated by Ayrton Senna in 1992, covers half a mile or about 0.76 km and is modeled on Brazilian Jacarepagua circuit known in Formula 1. The stock of over 160 karts varies in power from 120cc for ages 7-14 and a choice of 160cc, 390cc and 400cc (having two engines) for teenagers, adults and experienced drivers. The grandstand has seating for 200 people and there’s a podium for prize giving at the end of the day.

The cost for a 200cc kart is €15 per ten minutes and for a 390cc kart €22.50 per ten minutes. Junior karts cost €11 per ten minutes and mini Formula 1 for ages 3-6 cost €5 per five minutes.

A fleet of off road ‘Go Buggies’ was added recently, offering visitors the thrill of a cross-country excursion for half a day or a full day. To take the wheel you must be over 18 with a full driving license. Passengers must be at least seven years old. Buggies alone start at €90 per person for a half day trip (€130 for two in a buggy) and €160 for a full day (€200 for two in a buggy).

If that’s not enough, try one of the giant trampolines or the mechanical bull (Rodeo), again for ages of seven or more. But no one is left out at this family park. Infants can enjoy the junior circuit for mini F1 as well as mini boats.

There is a snack bar and beer garden with a capacity of up to 500 visitors, big screen Sky TV for sporting events, radio control cars similar to Scalextric, and a shop for team kits and branded clothing. There is no charge for entry as visitors pay only what they consume.

With so much on offer and plenty of capacity, Karting Almancil is perfect for group bookings, special occasion parties and corporate events.

There are plenty of packages available for all activities depending on the size of your party and how much fun you want to have. Groups of 10-40 can combine karting and buggies in one adventure packed day for €90 per person. The day includes full briefing for the karts, test drive, time tests, competition and Podium ceremony, followed by a two-hour buggy trip (2 persons per buggy) through the Algarve.

Safety briefings, helmets and insurance are included in the price where appropriate.

The complex is open at various times during the year and it is worth checking before you go. During the period February through to the end of May the track is open Tuesday afternoons and throughout the day Wednesday to Sunday. From June open from 10am to 7pm and has extended hours in July and August from 10am to midnight. The doors close at 8pm in September with shorter hours during October through December. The site is closed in January.

For more information on packages and pricing see the website or contact the track via phone or email. Details provided below.

Almancil Karting is located on the fringe of Almancil not far from the start of the EN125. From Apolonia Supermarket head west away from Almancil and just before the roundabout take the tricky left turning and then immediately right, following the signs for Karting. Take care on that left turn because the junction can be busy.
